Our assignment after Berlin again was to "schlep" luggage for the Motab group to Nürnberg, Germany, where another performance will be held in July. We left early enough in the morning
so the Salt Lake City team could first visit a museum detailing the growth of Communism in Germany. The building was part of the Documentation Center Nazi Party Rally Grounds. It was very well done with excellent displays and translation devices. We spent almost two hours there!
There were hundreds of photos, documents, and memorabilia detailing Hitler's rise to Führer.

Hitler's plan for the stadium was originally designed to hold 400,000 people,
but it was never completed.
This display listed the various concentration camps, and the names of victims
were imprinted on cards strewn over the railroad tracks.
After dropping our team off for their inspection of the Nürnberg venue, we drove by the old part of town, still surrounded by castle walls and city gates.
We were unsuccessful in locating the home of the city's famous painter of the 16th century,
Albrecht Dürer (self portrait),
but we did find his statue.
We were amazed at how big the medieval walled city was. It seemed to go on forever!
And now for the really hard part of that day's assignment: Once their meeting was completed, we were FORCED to take them to the world-famous city Rothenburg ob der Tauber, where we would spend the remainder of the day. Elder G and I had visited this amazing city last July and really had to be persuaded to make the return visit!
And then to think we had to stay in this 500-year-old hotel!
The lobby alone was soooo amazing!
We would have been happy just to have camped there!

In front of the Torture Museum, which was closed, was the typical "paddy wagon" of the day!
Elder G and Brother Barrick did manage to spend a little time in the stocks, however!
We got a kick out of this bakery's cookies--especially the tempting "snowballs,"
which turned out to be rather tasteless!

We had an authentic German dinner at an awesome restaurant.
And once I saw Shauna and Kim's yummy dessert, I ordered one for myself!
Scott said his cream puff dessert looked a lot better than it tasted.
Saturday morning we wrapped up our stay--which was mostly at Käthe Wohlfahrt's Christmas store--and said goodbye to cold, but beautiful Röthenburg.
Wanting to give our guests one more "taste of Germany" before dropping them off at their hotel in Frankfurt, we drove them by the beautiful, castle-laden Rhine River.
These castles and churches are just a more few of the many that dot the river bank
for miles and miles! Since it was getting dark, we turned around and headed towards home.
We stopped at the quaint town of Rüdesheim and drove up to the monument on the hill.
The Niederwalddenkmal monument was constructed to commemorate the foundation of the German Empire after the end of the Franco-Prussian War. It was built in the 1870s.
From there we had a great view of the Rhine and the little villages lining its banks.
We loved the view of the castle in lights across the river.
After another very enjoyable German dinner in Rüdesheim, we took our guests home. The following morning we took them to church at our little German branch in Offenbach. They were excited to visit a German branch and really enjoyed themselves. Scott Barrick was able to give the members a good plug for the upcoming Choir concert in July. All in all, our second stage of working "so hard" was every bit as enjoyable as the first! One more installment to follow.
I wish I had something more to than "Awesome!" "Amazing!" But that's all I can say. :)
